Waves on the Gulf of Florida

by John
(Midwest)

I love playing in the Florida waves

I love playing in the Florida waves

I was curious more about the waves - can you skim board or boogie board???? What about Marco Island???

Editor: John submitted this question to us. He loves to boogie board and skim board when traveling to the beaches.

My response to him was that it will depend on a number of things - this is all from my own experiences and folks who know certain areas better can chime in.

We have been to Florida with 6-8 foot waves and also with nothing more than a ripple - all in the same week sometimes.

The Atlantic Coast seems to offer more opportunity than the Gulf, however many times when we travel there have been tropical storms and sometimes even a Florida hurricane out at sea.

This has brought in large waves that we have ridden and watched others as well.

However, anyone can enjoy various water activities even when the waters are calm.
