With colder weather beginning in many parts of the United States many people are planning getaway vacations to warmer places.

However, many of these people have a hard time choosing where to go. One popular destination that offers a variety of activities is Port St Lucie, Florida.

No matter if you want to golf, fish, swim, or any other number of outdoor activities, you can find a place to do it all in Port St Lucie. In fact, this spectacular vacation spot has been nicknamed the "Jewel of the treasure coast".

Where is This Gem They Call Port St Lucie Florida?

Port St Lucie is located on the most southern end of mainland St Lucie County and is the place of many great golf courses, including the one of a kind PGA Village.

Here you will find the PGA museum with exhibits that date back to the 1600's when the sport of golf first began. Admission is free and well worth the trip to visit.

If you are more interested in taking a vacation rich in culture, Port St Lucie Florida vacations can offer you that as well.

Did you know that this area played a pivotal role during WWII? There is also a tribute to the Vietnam Veterans with the Florida Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall located on the Veteran Memorial Parkway. The area is also rich in Native American heritage as well.

What Else Should We Do While There?

Aside from relax and enjoy the beautiful beach areas and ocean here are a few Florida attractions that are not to miss.

If you are a sports fanatic aside from visiting the PGA Village for you golf lovers you'll wan to certainly check out Tradition Field for you baseball fans (not if you're a Yankees fan).

Or, Savannas Preserve State Park is one of the top Florida state parks that is perfect for lovers of nature and photographers.

Finally being right up the road from spots such as West Palm Beach this provides a great location to tour the eastern shores of Florida and check out other nearby towns/beaches.

Where to Eat in Port St Lucie...

Everyone has to eat right? We've boiled this section down and come up with some of the best places to eat based on experience and recommendations. Now this list is subjective and can get quite long, but from what we know you can't go wrong with the following restaurants.

For breakfast we were referred to the Berry Fresh Cafe which ended up being a nice change of pace from the chain restaurants that we try to steer clear from on vacation.

If you prefer something simpler try out Bagel Brothers. For other avenues such as Seafood and Fresh Fish we heard nothing but good things about Thirsty Turtle Sea Grill and Market.

Surprisingly when you are searching for top rated restaurants in Port St Lucie you will come across high marks for Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Italian, and other cuisines. In fact we were disappointed to find a number of chains on the top lists, so you may have to venture out a little and try little known spots or dives. They sometimes tend to be the best.

For something simple and American we recommend Hurricane Grill and Wings. May not be a fan favorite across the board but we are suckers for a good spot like this.

Now Shall We Discuss Accommodations...

The hardest part of any vacation is finding a place to stay that has the amenities you would like. Depending on budget, length of stay, and your own personal preferences, there are plenty of places to choose from.

For the budget conscious, the Best Western Suites, located directly in Port St Lucie you can enjoy your vacation poolside at their heated pool or relax in the jacuzzi after a long day of sightseeing.

Looking to say longer? Perhaps a stay at the Home-wood Suites by Hilton with the fully equipped kitchen you can save money on meals. Or you can enjoy their complimentary breakfast and light dinner each day. No matter where you decide to stay, these places or any number of other choices, Port St Lucie is sure to become your favorite vacation spot for years to come.
