We went out and did some research to find the best hotels that rec'd 4-5 star hotel ratings reviews.

Many folks state to look for a Florida vacation rental by owner, however here are 3 hotelsthat across the board were highly recommended.

Marco Island Marriott Resort Golf Club and Spa - more expensive, but well worth the priceif in your budget.

Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort - much more affordable and couldn't find a singletraveler's review that differed much from the above.

Marco Beach Ocean Resort - another excellent choice.

Again, you may save more by renting from a private owner.

"How to determine where to stay:

I've mentioned the following in the past ... after 20+ years of going to Marco and staying at many properties. The turning point of consideration to me is ... Do I want a beach vacation or a normal vacation.

If you want a beach vacation go rent a condo or reserve a hotel room on the beach. (The goal of a beach vacation is to spend most of your time on the beach or at the pool.)

If you want a normal vacation then rent a condo or house off the beach. (The goal of a normal vacation is to see the many unique and diverse activities that Marco/Naples and Everglades can provide. So you may walk/drive to a Marco public beach and spend part of a day on vacation.)

Location is directly linked in my mind to what type of vacation a person is looking for.When I'm on vacation if it ain't easy I don't do it. To me it is a chore to pack up the car and go to the Marco beaches.

Have gone for years and can't imagine a place I wouldn't want to stay. It's an incredible island. You've picked a great place to go to."

There are three that never seem to get passed up when it comes to eating great food and enjoyingan excellent atmosphere...

• The Italian Deli - excellent
• Snook Inn - staple in Marco with an excellent view. Food reviews were ok, but stilla great spot to grab a bite to eat.
• And the Crazy Flamingo if you are craving seafood
