Jacksonville Florida - One of the Popular Florida Vacation Spots

Jacksonville Florida

You'll have to travel 20 miles east through Jacksonville Florida to get to the beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Coast.

A lively beach town, Jacksonville is home to a number of beaches including, Mayport, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach.

We are going to tour you around Jacksonville Florida beaches as they seem to intertwine within Jacksonville.

Jacksonville offers great vacations for families and friends who seek cool ocean breezes, sandy beaches with excellent surf, and the chance to relax and enjoy great seaside restaurants, nightlife and shopping.

There is a lot to do and see when in Jacksonville and the various beaches, so let's get started and travel through the area to see if it's the Florida vacation spot of choice for your trip.

Jacksonville Beach Florida Activities

People come here for an array of activities and attractions. Wwimming, beach volleyball, bicycling, in-line skating, shopping and nightlife are just a few of the things to do on the beaches.

Nearby Atlantic Beach is a great surfing area due to the killer ocean breaks.

You can rent a beach cruiser, go deep-sea fishing, horseback riding, or test out your test your kayaking/canoeing skills on the St. Johns River.

Adventure Landing/Shipwreck Island is a must visit for the whole family. Plan on spending the majority of your time around the waters because that is what Jacksonville Florida beaches are all about.

The nightlife is happening in Jacksonville. Since the buzz changes constantly on the best spots and happening events, you will want to ask around when you get there for the wildest parties & tastiest drinks (we don't want to suggest a place that was once great and now dead).

Where to Stay in Jacksonville Florida

The great thing about Jacksonville Florida is the hotels are inexpensive and still nice. You will want to do extra homework to ensure you get a clean, comfortable stay.

Here are a few hotels you may want to look into...

  • Fairfield Inn - Marriott is always a good choice. Within walking distance to beach and a newer hotel. No balconies which I don't like.
  • Quality Suites Oceanfront - There is a nice review at TripAdvisor regarding this hotel- very unbiased. The hotel is a great stay, clean, but don't expect to spend time around the pool - we were disappointed by the look of it.
  • Best Western Oceanfront - I would say this is the best value and stay on Jacksonville Beach. Jacuzzi rooms and balconies were perfect amenities. Make sure you get the best deal possible as the price can be high for the amount of amenities you get.
These are the types of hotels that take over the beachfront stays. You can also look into a bed and breakfast or renting a home for your vacation.

Jacksonville Florida Dining

There are a number of great eateries in Jacksonville Florida. For a quick sandwich try Angie's Subs.

Harry's is great for seafood, but you will spend a good bit of money there. We didn't get a chance to eat there but everyone seemed to rave about it.

The Lighthouse Grille and Cruiser's Grill are two of the better tasting American cuisine spots. Great views, service, and excellent food - try a steak or burger! Just make sure you get to either of these restaurants early because they get busy quickly.

I guess it depends on what type of food you're in the mood for, but you'll have plenty of choices in Jacksonville Florida.

Weather on the Jacksonville Florida Beaches

The nice thing about this area is it seems to get less storm issues than other Florida vacation spots. During the storm season, this region of Florida might be your best bet.

We hope you have found this page a good start to see if Jacksonville Florida is right for your vacation. It is a great Florida vacation spot, but be sure it fits your budget along with your desires.
