Escape this...
For the beaches of Florida
And warmth of the Sunshine State
What does it mean to be a Florida snowbird? To put it simply so you know where this article is going, snowbirds are folks who live in cold climates during parts of the year and want to escape to the much more appeasing weather of Florida.
Obviously this tends to lead to folks who are able to pick up and leave town for a longer period of time. People who want a life of leisure. People who want to stay active outside, improve their health, and so forth.
This article will help you understand what the life of a Florida snowbird is and whether or not it's something you would want to look further into. There are quite a few things to consider especially since you'll be basically packing up and moving for an extended period of time so let's not waste time and get to the main points...
Many decide they want to make the Florida move because of the idea of living in the Sunshine State all year round. However, many people decide they don't want to be far away from their families or love where they've set down their roots, but love the idea of getting out of the cold climates for a part of the year or buying a second Florida vacation home.
The beauty is today the Florida snowbird lifestyle is not just for the rich and famous.
Accommodations in every price bracket allow many to live the snowbird dream. There are many popular snowbird destinations, but we have found through our own research, that Florida appears to be on of the most popular and most affordable.
Some of the areas you will want to dive into upon your own research and understand include:
- Community age ranges - there are communities that cater to certain age ranges. There is nothing wrong with this but you will want to understand the demographic of your particular area or community.
- Social activities and amenities. Understand the surrounding town or even community and what they have to offer. Many spots in Florida cater specifically to snowbirds so they set up the perfect setting that includes events, swimming, golf, parties, tennis, socials, crafts, and a lot more! Note that amenities can affect the price you may pay.
- Do you rent or buy? Renting may be your best option to get a grasp on the snowbird lifestyle to see how you like it and/or the area. This will allow you time to get a grasp on the financial responsibilities the life entails, get to know the people, the area, find good advisors to assist you with buying, and all that any large move/decision entails.
- On top of all the above there are additional criteria to consider. Prepping to leave, finding services to cater to your move both in transit, at your destination, and back at home, finding house sitters/property managers, relocating various items such as cars, etc. You may also need to determine if a job/work will be needed.
Listen we're only scratching the surface when it comes to being a Florida snowbird. Take it from me, getting the heck out of the snow for a few months a year sounds fantastic, but you have to really map out your plan and find trustworthy people to work with.
This will alleviate 99% of the headaches you may encounter. Once all the above is taken care of, you can relax and enjoy the snowbird lifestyle like so many people do! And you'll be glad you did it the right way!!!!
