Discover the Florida Everglades and All this Unique Area Has to Offer...

The Florida Everglades are truly uniqueThe Florida Everglades is an area of Florida that most people know of but wouldn't even consider visiting on their vacation.

Well, we are going to open your eyes and show you that there's more to the Glades than just swampland and alligators.

The Florida Everglades is a beautiful, rugged place that offers a unique blend of wilderness and wildlife.

The area is an important resource for it's commercial and recreational values and and a wonderful place to visit - many of its regulars would love to just keep the benefits of the Glades a secret.

Let's dive right in and head out to the Everglades to see what this area has to offer...

First, you have the national park that is an amazing area of wild where you can take part inhiking, fishing, camping, lodges to stay at, biking, canoeing, boat tours and more.

Everglades National Park offers a ton to doYou must at least do an airboat ride. They are spectacular and one experience that you'llremember forever.

There are fees to enter the park, so please keep that in mind and if you plan on camping or stayingat the lodge, be sure to make reservations in advance.

If anything else head over to the park for at least some fun outside of the beaches or stay therefor your entire vacation.

We once drove from Palm Beach across the state to Clearwater beach Florida and spent some timedriving through the Florida Everglades. The views were amazing and it offeredsomething quite different than the remainder of Florida.

Some of the Florida wildlife you may encounter while there includes, alligators, a numberof snakes, pelicans, herons, cranes, ducks, otters, deer, black bears, the Florida panther, and many forms of plantsand other species that we won't name here.

If you head over to Everglades City, you'll find a few hotels and restaurants if you needa place to stay and eat. The Captain's Table and Ivey House are two spots that will provideboth a place to sleep and eat.

Plus, Marco Island Florida is just a short trip away if you want to make this a day trip orhead to the beach.

Read what other travelers have said about the Florida Everglades:

**Fascinating exploration of an area indigenous only to South Florida. Pros were thealligators. Cons was that it was very hot (summer time). The Wetlands, River of Grass or, The Everglades, whatever you call it, there is nowhere else on earth quite like it. One of the worlds great, exotic getaways.

Watch our for the alligators**Like no place else on earth, the Everglades offers a view into an earlier time. The river of grass is a showcase for animal and plant life on a very intimate scale, but large enough that you can lose yourself in it.The pros again was the wildlife. The cons was the slow pace and it wasn't easy to get around.

**We just returned from the everglades. We took an airboat ride, a swamp buggy ride and a pontoon boat ride. Here are some of the things we saw.

Birds. Lots of birds native to Florida. Pelicans, cormorants, anhingas, egrets, ibis, great blue herons, moorhens, eagles, ospreys, etc. We learned a lot about these birds from our guides. There is something special about seeing these birds in their natural habitat.

Alligators. Lots and lots of alligators. We even saw a mother whose eggs had just hatched. She had four little alligators, about seven inches long, on her back. It was a National Geographic moment. Our guide through marshmellows at the gators. They really like marshmellows.

Wild hogs. There were dozens of wild hogs. Large hogs and the cutest little baby hogs. Our guide through corn for them. They really are a bunch of pigs.

Raccoons. They are also trained to appear when they hear the engines of a boat or truck. They know the guide is going to feed them. They stand on the shore and when the food is gone, so are the raccoons.

Fish. We saw garfish, catfish, mullet, and there were even African Oscars in water. They also like marshmellows.

Go in the spring or fall when the weather is moderate. It isn't buggy, and you won't sweat. There are many places to go for airboat rides, swamp buggy rides or pontoon boat rides. Prices are reasonable.
