We planned a vacation to Englewood Florida as it is one of the most beautiful places on the Gulf Coast. The best part about it is it’s not as popular as some of the other destinations which makes it quiet and relaxing.
A two week vacation on the beach was exactly what we needed. Our children and grandchildren drove down with us for one week and the following week we spent time by ourselves.
Our condo was booked through this site (found it through an ad), called The Boardwalk. It is a lovely two-story right on the beaches of Florida.
It had a living room, dining room, small kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms with queen and single bed. Upstairs provided us with a King sized bed in our bedroom with a dressing area and bathroom. Much better than a hotel.
Some of the other places to check into that are always top notch include, The Palm, Barefoot, and Krystal Key.
Along with a great place to stay, the amenities included washer and dryer, kitchen appliances, pool, and grill area.
The best part of this location is the view! We watched the sun set and rise, dolphins swimming in the Gulf, people walking the shores collecting seashells or my favorite, shark’s teeth. I have collected them for a long time.
In Englewood Florida we had a great grocery store and other tasty restaurants. Perfect for a two week stay.
In the mornings we would enjoy breakfast on the deck of our condo while my husband fished. Oh, I forgot to mention we had a front and back deck with views of the Gulf of Mexico and the Bay. Amazing to say the least.
The kids had a wonderful time in the sands making castles, digging, or jumping the waves in the ocean. We also enjoyed the pool when we weren’t on the beach. The girls made fun of their Grandpa as he played “Timber” falling in the pool doing belly flops.
Englewood Florida is a spot we’ve visited many times. In another life my husband owned a condo here. It has the feel of “Old Florida” with small buildings (no skyscrapers here) and a spot that Floridians come to vacation.
Bottom line is it is not as touristy as Clearwater or Panama City Beaches. The other great thing is the location and convenience. We spend time driving the coast to Venice, Sarasota, Fort Myers, and Orlando. Day trips are a wonderful way to visit other areas of Florida.
Restaurants: Let’s talk about the food. Other than the beaches we love to dine at the local eateries as one of our favorite things to do.
Here is a list of the great restaurants in Englewood Florida.
Johnny Leverock: Great seafood and a sweet view of the cove.
Maria’s Italian. This is located on Main St. – Rte 776. If you are in the mood for Italian, this is your spot. The other Italian eatery we enjoy is called, Nicole’s. A bit of a drive, but well worth it. Everytime we visit Englewood we eat here.
The Fishery. If you want a steak or seafood, then you must try The Fishery. Near Boca Grande and be sure to visit the Fish Market and take some back to grill.
Captain Curts in Siesta Key. Siesta Key is a beautiful beach and we usually drive that way to get the mouthwatering Cajun Grouper Sandwich. Yummmmm!!
Café 776 is a neat little place. We typically enjoy a late lunch/early dinner here. The portions are quite large which allows us to take some home and have a late night snack.
My recommendation is the 14oz. hamburger. It is gooooood.
A great place we love to end our vacation at is Farlows on the Bay. It is a bit pricier but the seafood and steaks are to die for. I always love the atmosphere and view in this place and we never have a bad meal.
The White Elephant Pub is a fun spot that offers good appetizers, burgers, drinks, and live music. It reminds me of a tropical type bar that we have fun at a couple of nights in Englewood Florida.
Other things to mention about Englewood Florida, is the wildlife you’ll share the beaches with. Armadillos woke us up in the mornings with their sounds. Turtles digging their holes so their eggs have a place to stay safe. Consider it a good omen if you see one.
Pelicans that perch themselves on the posts looking for breakfast. Makes great pictures. We also saw a baby shark (very small) hunting fish, seagulls doing their formations in the sand, and lots of other gorgeous flowers and animals that inhabit this area.
The weather in Englewood Florida was quite hot but not humid. August is during hurricane season, but we had zero problems. Some rain but not enough to cry about it. Everyday was beautiful. Just be sure to wear your sunscreen.
Hopefully we shed some light on why we love Englewood as we took you around the area. The sun was bright, days were warm, beaches were fabulous, and the two weeks were perfect.
