We spent a little time in Ft Myers, however a friend of minewrote about the few years he spent there. We will provide a bit of travel info hereand link to that page so you can get some first hand experiences.
Being a quieter spot, the beaches in Ft Myers aren't the build up of major hotel chains,which can be a good thing or not.
The key here is to find a Florida vacation rental by owner or local hotel where they takepride in their town and gorgeous beach community.
After doing some looking around here are a few we feel confident to recommend...
Edison Beach House- a bit more expensive, but a great beach resort. You'll getocean views, clean rooms, a great place for small kids or a romantic getaway. Heck, the the ownereven lives there.
Santa Maria Harbour Resort- located near the end of the island, you'll get aquiet stay with very friendly people all around.
Lovers Key Beach Club- quiet, clean, beautiful view, and within walking distanceto the beaches.
Also, there are a number of hotels for the budget traveler, but without inspecting thempersonally and only hearing testimonials, we say look into them with caution.
Plus, there are a few other resorts that other travelers seem to speak highly of. Among these are Diamondhead and Gulfwing Resorts.

You will enjoy a number of beach activities including, sunbathing, shelling,para-sailing, jet skiing, and more. The beaches in Ft Myers are more for the nature lover and beach lover. You're not going to find theme parks or a lotof wild times, but you will have a great Florida vacation with a little imagination.
You must visit Lover's Key State Recreation area- was featured on the travel channel a number of times. Also, take some time to venture around Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
Also, there is your typical shopping, a few tours if you're interested in those,and the Marina was pretty cool- do some fishing or boating.
When we visited the beaches in Ft Myers, we took advantage of the area for it's mostspectacular attractions, the beaches & water. We recommend doing the same- you'lllove it!
Places to Eat in Fort Myers
Choose from American, Italian, Seafood, Steaks, or various ethnictype restaurants in Ft Myers.

These were the only places we got a chance to dine at, but there are plentyof great eats that other travelers recommended when we visited Ft Myers.
