Let's Visit the Beaches in Ft Myers Florida!

Beaches in Ft Myers Florida

The beaches in Ft Myers Florida are located between Naples and Sarasota and offers you a "down to earth" type atmosphere for your vacation.

Located very close to Sanibel and Captiva Island (two wildly popular spots), we found Fort Myers to be reasonably priced, and a good place to take a trip.

You will get the sun, fun, beautiful beaches, nature, and plenty of water activities that you are accustomed to for any Florida vacation.

As a gateway to the Gulf Coast, the beaches in Ft Myers are rich in history and activity for both visitors and residents. So, let us travel down the Gulf Coast and see what Fort Myers Florida is all about.

We spent a little time in Ft Myers, however a friend of mine wrote about the few years he spent there. We will provide a bit of travel info here and link to that page so you can get some first hand experiences.

Ft Myers Lodgings

Being a quieter spot, the beaches in Ft Myers aren't the build up of major hotel chains, which can be a good thing or not.

The key here is to find a vacation rental by owner or local hotel where they take pride in their town and gorgeous beach community.

After doing some looking around here are a few we feel confident to recommend...

  • Edison Beach House- a bit more expensive, but a great beach resort. You'll get ocean views, clean rooms, a great place for small kids or a romantic getaway. Heck, the the owner even lives there.
  • Santa Maria Harbour Resort- located near the end of the island, you'll get a quiet stay with very friendly people all around.
  • Lovers Key Beach Club- quiet, clean, beautiful view, and within walking distance to the beaches.
Also, there are a number of hotels for the budget traveler, but without inspecting them personally and only hearing testimonials, we say look into them with caution.

Plus, there are a few other resorts that other travelers seem to speak highly of. Among these are Diamondhead and Gulfwing Resorts.

We hope you enjoy the beaches in Ft Myers and find that perfect stay. Now, let us move on to things to do and places to grub.

Ft Myers Action

You will enjoy a number of beach activities including, sunbathing, shelling, parasailing, jet skiing, and more. The beaches in Ft Myers are more for the nature lover and beach lover. You're not going to find theme parks or a lot of wild times, but you will have a great Florida vacation with a little imagination.

You must visit Lover's Key State Recreation area- was featured on the travel channel a number of times. Also, take some time to venture around Sanibel and Captiva Islands.

Also, there is your typical shopping, a few tours if you're interested in those, and the Marina was pretty cool- do some fishing or boating.

Don't forget the drive up and down the coast to Naples or Sarasota and any Florida beaches in the middle.

When we visited the beaches in Ft Myers, we took advantage of the area for it's most spectacular attractions, the beaches & water. We recommend doing the same- you'll love it!

Places to Eat in Fort Myers

Choose from American, Italian, Seafood, Steaks, or various ethnic type restaurants in Ft Myers.

For an array of choices we suggest trying the Hurricane Bay Cafe. We found Ballenger's great for seafood, but a bit pricey. You can also read our story about Pinchers in Fort Myers, located on the intercoastal. Great food, happy hour, and atmosphere.

These were the only places we got a chance to dine at, but there are plenty of great eats that other travelers recommended when we visited the beaches in Ft Myers.

For a great list of those, visit our link below to Trip Advisor to see what places are tasty!

Weather on the Fort Myers Beaches

We hope you enjoyed our tour around the beaches in Ft Myers Florida. It is a nice little find for a family vacation, romantic getaway, or the budget traveler.

You can tell by our tone that the beaches in Ft Myers are quiet and relaxing- perfect for that week away from all the chaos you experience at home. I can alreay feel the sea breeze and taste the cocktails as I enjoy the breaking of the Gulf while taking in the sun.

Experience Fort Myers through the eyes of a local to find the ins and outs of the area.
